psalms in the morning

There's a small group of women that have been getting together every Wednesday morning since September and going through the Psalms. They meet at 6:00 in the morning and listen to Pastor George Robertson's sermon series (First Pres. Augusta) on the Psalms. I'm definitely NOT a morning person, but the fellowship and teaching are so worth getting up at 5:15. I haven't been able to make it to the meetings for over a month, so I've been listening to them at home. Today I listened to Psalm 16. If you have 30 minutes, grab a hot cup of tea or coffee and a notebook and take a listen. I hope you'll be as encouraged as I was.

a church choir

There's just something about music that transforms me, allows me to feel Jesus. Rock, jazz, classical, electronic, R&B, etc.

Today my family headed over to West Chester to attend the annual Christmas concert at Westminster Presbyterian Church. My 2nd cousin, Glenn, is the accompanist & music associate.

The opening hymn was "O Come All Ye Faithful" with a 110-voice choir, about 500 people singing along in the audience, and a full orchestra. I swallowed back tears, so as to not find myself crying uncontrollably. It was there, I could feel it. I wanted to cry. To just let it all out, but I didn't. Instead, I just soaked it all in...and thought about Jesus. Felt Jesus. It really made me long for Him and for heaven. I've found myself longing for heaven more and more.

It also made me miss the days of singing in my college's a capella choir, The Genevans. That was a privilege.

benevolent creator

My new friend Allie reminded me of a great personality test I took last year. Last year I scored as a Benevolent Creator. I think I'll take it again and see what I come up with.

Yup. Still...

God in a box

Taken from a post on Scott & Jennifer's blog:

Reading Job this morning, and that’s what the book is about. Job’s friends try to put God in a box. If you do A, God will reward you with B. It is only in grief, tragedy, lament that real worship begins, not grasping God for His gifts but clinging to reality in the midst of confusion. God does not answer with formulas but with poetry, not with explanations but with presence. Today the churches will be praying and fasting for the end of the epidemic. We ask for that. But we don’t pretend that if there is enough outcry, then surely God will act the way we want. No, we pray to say that we have not given up, that we still seek God’s presence in the face of loss.

more on dr. jonah & bundibugyo, uganda

I'm finding it hard to blog about anything other than what is going on in Bundibugyo, Uganda right now.

This is an article about Dr. Jonah Kule from ABC.com.

Thank you to everyone for your continued prayers for Jonah's family, and the entire community and WHM team. Please also pray for peace among the various tribes.

PLEASE PRAY

Please be praying fiercely for the WHM Uganda Team.

If you go to November 07 on their blog you can read posts from the "beginning" of this nightmare.

Psalm 91

1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
3 For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
4 He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
7 Though a thousand fall at your side,
though ten thousand are dying around you,
these evils will not touch you.
8 Just open your eyes,
and see how the wicked are punished.

9 If you make the Lord your refuge,
if you make the Most High your shelter,
10 no evil will conquer you;
no plague will come near your home.
11 For he will order his angels
to protect you wherever you go.
12 They will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
13 You will trample upon lions and cobras;
you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

14 The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
15 When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
16 I will reward them with a long life
and give them my salvation.”

beef broth

Say it six times, fast.

Ok. So mom was pouring various things into a big pot tonight, making some soup. We were talking broths. She used two different kinds of broth for the soup. One was beef broth. I looked at her and said, "Say it six times, fast." Thus followed "beef broth, beeth boff, breef boff..." and five minutes of laughter.
