you are no mere mortal

It is a serious thing...to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you can talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. All day long, we are in some degree, helping each other to one or other of these destinations. It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with the awe and circumspection proper to them, that we should consider all our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics. There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations - these are mortal, and their life to ours is as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendors.

C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory

Currently listening to So Long Lonesome by Explosions in the Sky. Kind of adds to the above quote.

Lovely words. Every day, I'm blessed to cross paths with some extraorinary people. I am inevitably changed in the process. My choice lies in my willingness to embrace the experience or shy away from it.

I think it's much more fun to dive in. Thanks for the timely reminder. I enjoy your blog even more with each passing visit, and this entry exemplifies why.

This great Rebecca. I can mirror Carmi's comments above. Are you going to share what you are listening to on each post? Just wondering. I like how some of my regular bloggers do that...I was thinking about doing it. Oh, and thanks for your comment to me about my new venture...I am so exicted. :)

Those words are so true - they really make you stop and think. How will the next person to cross your path influence your life? Will they make an impression this time, or will it wait until the next time you meet? I love the types of thoughts this quote conjures up for me.

I'm a huge fan of explosions in the sky.

they're the perfect background music.

something to leave on in your room so when you come back you get welcomed by a good song.
